Gildie is a female Flareadon who lives at Havenfield. She is eagle-sized with gold fur and gold eyes. When Gildie first arrived at Havenfield, in the first book, Grady and Edaline thought she was a pterodactyl. When Sophie read her mind telepathically, however, she realized Gildie needed fire to survive, so she was a Flareadon. It was speculated later that the Black Swan sent Gildie to Sophie purposefully so that she could collect the Everblaze that was burning in the Forbidden Cities.
Sophie was given a gold Flareadon Prattles pin by the Black Swan as a clue to use Gildie to catch the Everblaze.
